Variable assist steering actuator question
I want to play around with the 'Two Flow Electronic (TFE) Steering' in my '36 Chevy. After putting a coupla hundred miles on my project, for the first time I took a look at this system today. Up to this point I had just left the ground wire to the actuator hanging so I have been running with decreased power assist all the time. Today I hooked up a jumper so I could manually ground the actuator. Sat out in front of my house playing around with it(engine on, car still, turning wheel a little). Could detect no difference, grounded or not. Put it back in the shop and ran a long jumper out near the pump. Just sitting there, engine off, key on, and grounding the jumper (on-off-on-off, etc) I could not detect the slightest sound or feel like I would have expected from a small solenoid. Its going to be a bit of a pain to pull it and I don't want to do that and find out its OK. When grounding/ungrounding the jumper I get a small blue 'snapping' spark like I would expect from a winding so I know there is a connection but maybe the solenoid is frozen. It did sit for the better part of 4 years. Anyone have any experience in this area?
Also, once I get by this problem, I am going to need to cobble in the 'Multi-Function Chime Control' black box. I have encorperated several other electronic functions from the donar car ('95 SSEi) requiring some of those other black boxes but I have never even seen a 'Multi-Function Chime Control' . My shop manual has a terrible drawing that is purported to show it but it really doesn't. Does anyone have a photo of one or at least can describe what it looks like? I would rather pick one up at the local scap yard than the dealer.
