20 degrees of KR?? Normal for 2500RPM shifts?

So in oregon i was able to take a 3,000RPM shift and only about 10* of KR or so on the 1-2 shift. At WOT it was 20* quickly then would taper down till the 2-3 shift.

now I only have to be at 2500RPM and get 15-20 degrees of KR

Keep in mind I ran a 15.2 with 20* of KR as well...I happened to have the scantool on for every run.

We checked the fuel pressure with Boosty's Gauge I think, it showed 50psi or so, real healthy according to SSEiMatt93.....have to ask him the exact numbers at idle and WOT....Obviously I replaced the fuel filter recently as well. I also just put a high flow cat on several months ago.

And I am running a K&N RX4750 and this is with a 2.3" Pulley.

So I got home tonight with the newly aquired scantool, and just around town I had it on...the 1-2 shift says 18-20 degrees of KR even at 2500RPM and 0 pounds of boost (top of the gauge).......WTF is up with that I ask myself? Well perhaps my exhaust system is clogged. The muffler needs changed or the manifolds are cracked so bad they are giving KR...I really doubt though I am outflowing the manifolds at 2500RPM shifts......

I have a spare set of manifolds ready to be ported when I find someone that can weld and port them for me.....so far no luck there. I suppose I could replace the muffler as well.

Could this possibly be a Flaky PCM? what the hell else would cause it?

My next step is to put the 2.53 pulley back on to see if the KR is the same, I imagine it will be since I am recording those numbers at 0lbs of boost.

Really need ideas here lol. Pulling my hair out.

ya i would be putting on teh stock pulley as quick as possible.....20* i believe is the max that the car can pull, so you might be doing damage

LakevilleSSEi 08-03-2006 07:58 AM

That's disgustingly high KR...

Agree with Pat until I can read the post a lil more....

Get the stock pulley back on.

LMFAO....

Hans it sounds as you are having multiple issues as well, and you need to get this thing nailed down...KR is a bad thing when the motor cant pull enough timing as im sure you know

im guessing that the 20* is false, seeing that you ran a 15.2 with a supposed 20* KR just last week seems a bit off to me, if you really had 0psi and or 20* KR, i would think your numbers would be closer to a 16.0 1/4mi

We need to look at those exhaust manifolds first of all. And anything that may be rattling or loose. It might also help to remove the knock sensor and reinstall it with some RTV to insulate it from the block.

Like every other post... To see if the KR is real: Run some race gas for a while and see if the KR goes down - if it doesn't its false, if it does your SOL. :x

Come back to use with results and then we can try to track down where this false KR is coming from. ;)

BTW on your 15.20 run what was your WOT timing at? If not sure what does your timing look like when your seeing really high timing?
