Exhaust Manifold
Hi all, my Bonnie has some serious exhaust problems. I brought it in for the loud exhaust noise it was making ,and the shop said My manifold is broken and quoted me, 1100.00 to fix it
Does this sound right?? What are my other options???
Thanks

Where are you located? Are you located where gold leaves grow on trees?
You should be able to get a good used manifold off www.car-part.com for under $50. Shop labor at a (RAPE) rate of $75/hr should be about $150. Gaskets can be had from most parts stores for under $15.
You will want to have the replacement manifold checked for cracks by a machine shop prior to installation so they can weld/repair the cracks.... Might as well just have yours welded and save the cost of a replacement.
I am guessing your car is a 92-95 supercharged 3800, correct? If you replace your best bet is to find a low-mileage manifold off a non-supercharged Bonneville. They typically don't produce enough heat to crack the manifolds unless the exhaust is plugged.

As said, that price is highly inflated. It WOULD help us answer your question better if you told us what year and trim level your car is, but even without that we are fairly confident in saying that you should be able to replace both exhaust manifolds for much less than that.

The car is 92SSei and car part .com list several for this model. I'm not to sure which one it would be.

2 more things to prevent future cracking is to have the ports at the manifold flange (to head) welded externally and the factory internal weld ground down. Then have the manifold ceramic coated ($50 at a shop or do it yourself -there'* a link WillWren posted on here awhile ago) to promote the exhaust heat exiting the way it should, and also protects the exhaust manifolds from future cracking.

You need manifolds from a 92 SSEi or Supercharged SSE only. Your manifolds are different than the 93-95 SSEi'*, and you have an EGR feed in yours where the non-supercharged 92'* don't. You literally have the only exhaust manifolds that were used for only one year/engine in recent Bonneville history. 92 Buick Park Ave Ultra manifolds should work also.
