Hi, Guys - Need help again!!! I have the car all jacked up and a new anti-knock sensor on the workbench but I cannot figure out how to disconnect the wire from the sensor on the engine. As you know, it is very difficult to see anything and my "brail" technique is not working. I don't want to destroy anything so I thought I would just ask my buds on the forum. Please tell me how to disconnect it. And also the best way to take out the sensor while you're at it. I think I can get a socket with extension on it, but am not sure yet. I searched the archives and found one guy'* comment that he used channel-locks on it. Seems awfully cramped for that....... Thanks in advance!

You are so right, Gameover! I got cooled off while waiting for feedback on my question and thought that I could figure it out if I took a little time with it and , voila', I did! As you said, you simply find the "wide spot" and squeeze and pull out. It is shaped like an oval and even in brail I was able to feel it. So, thank you very much for your answer! Even though I was able to figure it out it was great to get your answer so quickly. I just finished a minute ago. Once you figure it out it isn't too tough to do.

To assist others like me I want to add that the anti knock sensor on the 93 anyway, is directly above another sensor with four wires. This sensor makes it difficult if not impossible to get to from directly below, however you can snake your arm up and around and get to it "blind". The good news is that a 7/8 inch socket fits it well and with a 6 or 8 inch extension you can get it off pretty easily - a little tight fit, but doable. Once I got the wire off it was about a ten minute job. Also, an ounce or so of oil dripped out when I removed the old one. I had some paper towels handy so there was no problem at all. Hopefully, this will help someone else out. I guess I saved an hour of labor at the shop which makes me feel really good!

Just to get a little more pertinent info in here I replaced the sensor because I got the "service engine soon" or SES light and checked codes. Got a 43 which depending on where you check says it a little differently but boils down to "knock sensor".

How much did you pay for your sensor? I've got a scantool and at WOT I'm getting 4-8 degrees of Knock Retard...I think it'* the sensor too. I have had an intermittent Code 43.

My checkbook register says I paid $32.14 cents for the sensor. However, I do think I also purchased some other small item. My memory has it being in the mid $20 range at Autozone. I replaced it in just a few minutes once I figured out to pinch the connector and it has run great since. I am having a little start-up rough idle, but I think that is dirty throttle body and plan to clean it soon. Your intermittent code 43 may be just a dirty connection but considering the cost isn't too much I opted to not fool with taking the old one off and checking for corrosion, etc. just replaced it.
