1997 wont blow out the center a/c vents, WHY?
Can't find what the problem is. I have the sse and there are no vaccum lines that I can see. Anyone have any suggestions.
James  |
I'm a different year...but I had that same thing.
Pop the ole hood and take a look at the firewall. Right next to the brake booster (blg thing with the brake fluid holder aka master cylinder mounted to it) is probably a black plastic box. Find the vacuum line that isn't hooked to it, BUT SHOULD be and reattach or replace as necessary. If you don't see where it attaches..feel around near the bottom of the plastic box...I couldn't see the place easily at first and feeling around I found it. If this is connected...start and run the car for a moment...turn it off...unplug the hose. You should clearly hear the little box pulling in air. If it doesn't there may be a crack in it. If those two don't help..the vets can probably point you in a better direction. BTW..not sure if the vacuum resevour (black box) is in the same place on 97 as 95. |
Cant seem to see a black box. On my car there is the master cylinder, to the left there is the cruise controll and to the right there is the windshield wiper motor.
On the side where the cc is there is the housing for the ac blower but I see no vaccum lines. I even took part of the dash out and there is no vaccum lines to the control unit. perhaps that's normal. Perplexed.... |
The problem persists. See this link, but post replies here:

Perplexed.... There's a vacuum line somewhere on the engine harness.....no reseviour....maybe the brake booster... Look for a purple vacuum line in the engine compartment ...thats most liely the line that isn't getting vacuum. Randman said he'll be able to look it up better and have more later. He's in the middle of a few million things... |
Still lookin, tore my dash apart and cant find a darn thing. Perhaps Im not looking in the rught place. Actually I dont know for sure what Im looking for. I have not been able to find a vacuum line. UHG  I really like this car. It was a give me from the father in law. He was going to trade it in for a new car and they only wanted to give him 1800 for it so he took my old 92 buick regal and gave me this. Wow. I had the cam shaft sensor go out and a belt and pully break, but other than that, at 147,000 the thing runs good. I really want to take care of it and make it last.
Ive got a slow oli leak some place near the oil pan. It's so little I'm not going to pester with it. Dad had the trans changed a few months before I got it. Is changin the oil in a trans very hard? I have never done it. The car is cool. Its a family car yet a sporty fun non dork kinda thing ya know? Is the coolent supposed to be the red type? Lastly, I would like the engine compartment to look super clean. I hae no experience in doing this. Any one hae suggestions. |
The Vaccuum Reservoir, or tank, is located under the right front fender. Now I know why I haven't seen it yey cause that's about the only part of the donor car that hasen't been dismantled yet. Check vacuum lines from tank to engine and tank to firewall for broken or disconnected lines.. The line from the tank goes through grommet P102 which is the one behind the passenger's strut tower closest to the fender. At this point, the line is black but it changes to purple behind the dash.
The motor is scheduled to be dropped this morning so I can probably get a pic or two and post later today. Your homework assignment until then is to inspect what you can. Here are the tank removal instructions per the 97 FSM so you have an idea of how to dig into the location: Turn front wheels to the right. Remove or disconnect Install or connect Since there is no mention of "remove inner fender" I'm willing to bet that it is forward of the RF wheel. Kinda directly under the battery. |
Ok..I was rereading after talking to Randman and James...that slow oil leak is probably the normal slow seepage we all encounter. It is probably eminating from where the motor meeting the transmission. If so it could be the standard seepage from the rear main seal.
We all have it. My fix for it is to wipe down the area with a rag when changing the oil. So far this has kept my floors dry and clean. |
Words alone can't say how much I am thankful for someone to answer these questions. My feminine, femine, feme, dang it, girly side is comeing out. Thank you so much. I'm a father of three and a full time student and my wife works part time. I really have to do this stuff my self. THANK YOU,, for you time.
