1996 SSEI Trouble Code P1406

Does anybody have an idea what this actually means? Anybody else have this pop up? Do I have to replace the entire EGR Valve or is there something else causing it?

(P1406 EGR Valve Pintle Position Circuit Fault)

You can try removing the EGR, replacing the EGR gasket, and Scrubing the underside of the EGR and the passages you can get to with a good solvent and a small brush of some sorts....My 95 had the same problem, then I did that, and haven't seen it come back since.....

There is no 'underside' to a linear EGR (Lakeville, his is different than ours ;) ).

You can take it apart and clean it. That's the best first step.

I had the same trouble on my 97SE....P1406...was a problem with the puter....

Same problem on my 95 SSEi. Took and followed the general instructions in techinfo about cleaning. Pintle was free though...so I sprayed a little cleaner at it. New gasket...and whatever you do...take that connector off and on about 5 times.

Sometimes it's just a bad connection.

Thanks, I'll try some of that.
