Default Air conditioning question

My Air temp actuator is broken. Can my air conditioning still work if i was to move the door manually, or does the compressor only kick in when the actuator sends it a signal?

you can move the door manually and the AC will still work. The HVAC headunit and or programmer send the signal to the pcm/ac compressor to turn on. The actuator only comes into the loop to control the temperature.
