1996 Pontiac Bonneville Transmission in a 1995 Bonneville

I know the 95/96 both have the 4t60e, all the gear ratios are equal. All the eletrical would be able to plug in, same with almost everything else. I just want to confirm that this would be able to work in my 95 bonne N/a with little problem.

If everything you list is correct then hypothetically this is the same tranny and it should hypothetically work.

You might want to check with a junkyard to see if the interchangability listings show this as a possible match.

Not necessarily true. You'd think the 92 and 93 are the same, but they're not. Even the 93 to 95 isn't a good swap. There are slight electrical differences inside that would have to be updated.

Pay close attention to the wiring since the 96 is full OBD2.

from what we have learned you need a trans from the same year, to make everything go smoothly

yeah, trannies are funny... they're quite often changed internally w/o really any way for the end customer to know - mainly because it's not a big deal to most... but differences in PCM's, and sometimes just simple changes like internal wiring harnesses, etc. can lead to variations internally to different model year (and sometimes in the same model year) transmissions...

do the suggested call to a yard, and check their compatibility lists... but get a picture of your electrical connector and take it with you and compare to any tranny before you sign on the dotted line...

Okay, I see what you guys are talking about. So, for the most hassle free I need to get a trans from a 1995 car with a 3800 Series II (It does not need to be from a bonneville), correct? And also, lets say my trans is the FW2 would the F17 trans still work with my engine?

you will need to find a trans with the correct RPO for your car, I would bet that you have a 3.06 trans, you will need to find another 3.06 trans, it dosent have to be a bonne, but most Buicks and Olds dont have the 3.06 if you donot put a 3.06 your PCM will not know what to do with the shifts, and will cause a lot of problems

just get a 95 Bonne trans with the correct RPO to be safe
