1994 pontiac bonnie non supercharged tranny

would it hurt to put in a fw17 instead of a fw2 option ratio?thank you.

Mike Jun 25, 2015 05:26 PM

FW17 isn't an RPO. Is this a typo?

FW2 is 3.06

MeticulousMike Jun 25, 2015 06:54 PM

oh it must be a typo yeah the other ratio 2.83 whatever.you know what I mean.

Mike Jun 25, 2015 07:05 PM

2.83 would get you better fuel mileage, but you lose your get up and go like you get with the 3.06.

thanks for the reply...now being said if i were to get the other tranny would it set off any codes or have drivability problems?.if it does have a code issue wouldn't it be good to get the computer that was in the car i get the tranny from?. so i have a match on tranny and pcm.

Mike Jun 26, 2015 04:56 PM

Yes, if the PCM doesn't know about the different trans, it may throw a code about improper gear ratio. So yes, it would be better to grab the matching PCM.
