1993 Bonniville won't start
 
Hello Auto World,

Please Help!

I pulled my 1993 Pontiac Bonniville in the garage cut it off. The next day it would turn over but not start. By letting it turn over for ~ 30 seconds, it will occasionally start. When it does, it runs extremley rough and then turns off. When it turned off it locked up untill I manually turn the motor.

To trouble shoot this I',ve check the fuel pump, I did notice that when I pull the vacum hose from "what I think is the " the fuel pressure regulator, I smell and see gas run out (not sure if this is a problem). I;ve verified the TPS varies 0 to 5K ohms between center tap, my ignition coils measure output Side 5K, Input ~.9 Ohm, ICM measures 8K between terminals.

Over the last few weeks I've fixed a low power issue by replacing the Knock sensor, A rough Idle issue by replacing a coil pack and it ran fine (with a minor idle variation).

Alright first how many miles is on the car and have you ever had the intake gasket replaced on it

Have you had to add any coolant lately or is it just the gas problem you've noticed?

The Car has 265000 Miles on it the engine has 165000, I did notice that the coolant was low but I thought that was from the guy who changed out my Knock sensor

The gaskets have never been replaced

if you get gas out of the vac line hole you need a new fuel press reg

Thanks for you help.....I'm getting gas out of the vacum line for the Fuel Pressure Regulator and on my way to autozone. I'll keep you posted

Mr.Young although you may very well have a defective fuel pressure regulator, It sounds like your intake gasket is leaking, this enegine is very bad about them leaking and filling a cylinder or two sometimes up with coolant. Which would explain the lock up and then once you do get it started you're having to burn the coolant out of the cylinder. If you experience this again try pulling the plugs out before starting the engine. Let me know what you come up with. See Ya Wayne

So, After changing the Oil, removing the plugs (which were soaked with gas), and turning the engine to blow out the remaining fuel, I got the car to start. It ran smooth for a miniute, then choked out. I pulled the stick and it was milky (@#$!%$#@&***%$). Had Bonnie towed to the Doc. The Doc confirmed that the head gaskets were blown (as Bother Wayne suspected). Today the heads are being refined and I should pick her up from the Doc today. My medical bill is ~$1200 (a lot of beer $).

The cause anaysis is that th fuel leaking back into the engine (through the Fuel Presure Regulator) created an over fluid capacity condition (too much oil) and compression which blew out the gaskets. If I only caught this earlier!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
