well i had the codes cleared and the only code it thru was the Cam positioning sensor error code... any ideas?

willwren May 7, 2006 04:46 PM

Either the cam sensor is bad, or the magnet has come loose (rare for your generation). Check for both when you tear into it.

how can i tell if the magnet needs to be replaced? with the sensor off all i see is flat metal??? man i suck with cars..

BillBoost37 May 9, 2006 02:19 PM

Ok..that flat metal is the cam. Your cam is a gear and you see the flat part of the face right now. You need to manually turn the engine. Using a large socket and ratchet on the harmonic balancer bolt. Remove all plugs first. that will make it much easier. As the motor is being turned....look for a magnet in the cam sensor hole..or a hole missing a magnet in the cam gear.

I believe the dampner bolt is a 24mm. Where are you at in the country. No doubt someone can visit you and help you along if you need it. Once you get it running right it'll be a good car no doubt(this is coming from a Ford guy.) Don't give up yet.

Nevermind the size I specified, thats around a L36 size.... Give or take a few MM.

gilligans_off May 17, 2006 12:11 AM

yeah it was a 24mm and the inverter is fine so now im really stuck.. ill phone my dads mechanic buddy to scan and clear the codes and go from there. but im still on my wits end here lol
