Now this may sound dumb but im new to all of this... whats the PCM and what should you have to pay for one (guess)?

Don't change your PCM until you try the ICM like I suggested in my last post.

Ignition Control Module <--------The thing under the ignition coils. Check the connection.
Powertrain Control Module <------the main brain.

If you need either, I suggest a wrecking yard. The ICM can come from any 93-05 3800. (stay away from 92 as it was a mixed year, and the Magnavox ignition is shit, and go as new as you can get).

oh yeah i guess i should read your posts better. and hey thanks very much for your help ill look into it and post any findings.... or new questions

What it boils down to is that ONE code clearly identifies the ICM. We're very certain it's a bad unit. Two other codes COULD be the ICM, but might not be. The ICM is the logical starting point.

Your TPS should be next, as the O2 won't prevent a start. But again, you may have a wiring problem or a ground issue, or a PCM fault. That's a TON of codes to be throwing.

You might want to re-seat all your PCM connections to be on the safe side, and for some peace of mind. It's above the right front passenger footwell. Remove the 3 screws that hold the hushpanel, and look up. It's the silver box with the 4 connectors on it. You'll have to remove a 10mm hex to get it out, and it's a tight fit and a struggle.

I don't have the time to look it up right now, but your spark reference, cam, crank, tps, and O2 may all use the same connector on the PCM.

well i checked the fuel pressure and that was fine... and it seems to start now when its cold... but after a few min. it stalls and wont start. i checked the MAF and it seems to have been tampered with at one point as there is teeth marks from some vise grips and the base of the sensor is cracked. Oh and i also cleaned the coils and ICM ( i think )

Good find on the MAF. Let us know once you get a new one in there.

gilligans_off Apr 20, 2006 06:51 PM

yeah im going to phone around and find out how much it will set me back and report back when its in.

gilligans_off Apr 23, 2006 04:04 PM

can the MAF come from any 3.8L or does it make a diff. if mines supercharged?

gilligans_off Apr 25, 2006 06:50 PM

Well I replaced the MAF and it did make it run better but it still stalled and wouldnt start.... I guess i should change the ICM!?!

gilligans_off Apr 26, 2006 07:40 PM

I replaced the ICM and coils to and still not starting after it stalls or heats up and you try and start it. WTF!!!
