Default ~Issues part II~

I know earlier someone had mentioned something about the oil pressure being too low. Well I took some pics when I went out last night and the pressure seemed ok. The pressure was around 40 and the temp was around 160 degrees or so but as it got warmer it went down again. What could cause the loss of pressure? Hope nothing serious, but something tells me otherwise.

When the engine gets that warm, oil will thin some and pressure will get lower like that. Mine does it too. I don't know if it'* bad or not, but 350'* are pretty known for it too.

The temp getting higher is a byproduct of stop and go driving. The jumping after it'* cooled down is a little weird. A new thermo is cheap...

Yeah thats another issue. I checked the oil and shes full. When I drive though, it goes up to 40. This all just started to happen today while driving around to burn some fuel to get below a half tank because the tank is leaking.

What else could cause the low pressure?

It still has about 1600 miles to go before my next oil change. Im just wondering why all of a sudden everything is going wrong with the thing? I know the person before me who owned it said he had a problem with low pressure, bought some aftermarket oil pressure sensor which didnt fix it, then put in a GM one and it was fine. Ill check the oil again tonight. Im going out in a little while, Maybe Ill get a Qt of oil and add it and see if that brings the pressure up. Ill post pics later when I get back.

He asked how old it was because some people don't change it every 3,000

If you follow the manuf. recommended..you are currently around 3,400 miles on the oil, if you are following good oil practices..you have 1,400 miles on the oil.

If you are over 3,000 miles. My suggestion would be to do an oil change (not a shop, but you do it)Use a good synthetic that doesn't break down like Mobil 1 and an AC Delco filter PF47.

If your pressure is higher from the start then the oil had broken down and your car would like fresh oil more often than you were doing it.

Since ownership, I have yet to do an oil change, but there is a sticker on the windshield thats telling me to do the oil change at 182,XXX miles and I have just a little over 180XXX but im hoping to get to my brothers shop and do the tranny filter gasket and fluid, oil change with Castrol Syntec (previous owner used this oil) and gas problem check around.

I'll keep you guys posted and I will be taking shop pics. Gotta talk to my bro and find out when I can bring it in.

Thanks for the help and suggestions!!

Go mobil 1 versus castrol...no reason really..I'm just partial. I don't trust those stickers. Trusting one would mean that the HS dropout understood how to add.
