rear brake cylinder leak
Yeah, I know. I have to replace it. But I just installed new shoes, and i'm wondering if those are toast now because of the brake fluid in there? My service manual doesn't really tell me. Anyone out there know? :?
And... any tips on replacing that cylinder? :?

If the shoes are soaked with fluid they are junk. If there is only a little bit of fluid on them you could clean them off with some brake cleaner. It just depends on how bad it is. Good luck

I have heated the oil off of clutch disc. before carefully with a torch. The heat make the oil come to the surface then you wipe it of. After awhile it gets dry. Then some course sandpaper to get the glaze off. How it works with brake fluid I dont know but for the price of shoes it might not be worth the time. Dont use a torch in conjunction with brake cleaner. Brake cleaner will get the surface but the first time the brakes get warm the stuff that got obsorbed into the pad will come to the surface
As far as changing the cyl. you need to hope your brake line cooperates. Heat works here also. Then you need to get it bleed out proper.

Thanks for the advise guys. I tried to get the cylinder off, and the brake lines are just rusted all to heck. My flare nut wrench was just going to round off the corners. I'm afraid i'll have to let a shop do this one. :(

Thats usually what happens. It usually winds up being vise grips and heat. If you want to save the line. Now I just clip the line and plan on replacing it. But you have a old car there so Im sure a new side line isnt a bad idea. But wait those are just the little short things. I think I saved them when I did the LeSabre cant remember anymore. I always use heat before I round things off. Brake lines always break loose hard.
Good Luck
