Window motor died after getting tint
1 Attachment(s)
Since my car is old, the front windows are very slow, but after getting my windows tinted, the front passenger side window worked a few times but now it stops on the way up. I assume its getting overheated and is shutting itself off. Does adding tint add that much drag or is it just time for the motor to give up?
Also, after searching around I found that the Delco motors are not liked by anyone, the lifetime warranty motors at Advance are 56 dollars, is that a reasonable price? Picture of tint: Attachment 39547 matt |
Matt that tint looks great...
I have been through a couple of those window motors on my 91.... For some reason the passenger side one is the one that likes to fail... I got the one at Advance as well... Its been a few years and it still works, but its getting slower and slower.... __________________ Best Car Insurance | Auto Protection Today | FREE Trade-In Quote |
I really can't see the tint causing any extra drag, so I would think the motor is just getting old and about dead.
BTW, that car looks amazing 8) I want more pics :P |

Figures, but I don't have even 50 dollars of extra money right now, hah. As long as the AC keeps going, I think I will just keep the windows rolled up. Although if something happens to the AC, Window motors < R12 in terms of cost I suppose.
Thanks for the compliments, but I only have a few pics of my car, heres some interior ones, before getting tint. Attachment 39545 Attachment 39546 matt |
Matt if anything ever happens with the R12 we could always switch it to 134a.. ;)
Window motors on these older H bodies are a very common issue... Car still looks great BTW ;) __________________ Best Car Insurance | Auto Protection Today | FREE Trade-In Quote |

You can get a little more life out of the motor if you spray silicone on a rag and rub it between the rubber window seals while the window is down and it will lube and free up the track.

Read this thread. If it works on your year it may just save you some $$$.

Thanks, but that does not seem to apply to the 1986-1991 H body. I also tried silicone spray, but the window still stops, but I'm sure that will help speed once the motor is replaced, which I also bought, on credit though, hah. 57 dollars plus tax from Advance. 1 dollar package of bolts from Home Depot. Not bad, but now I need to find a drill. Fun.

Who ever thought riveting these motors in was a good idea? What a pain!
