so i have a leak in my tank. it'* getting bad. how would i go about repairing it or is it worth it to buy a new tank? what would the price be on a tank?

Wheres it leaking at? A pretty common area on our cars are the lines coming right out of the tank-the sending unit. They are hard to find in any junkyards because most of them destroy the tank as the car enters the junkyard, but I replaced my Camaro tank with one from www.gastanks.com

Ghetto trick #2541-good old Bondo works great to seal a gastank leak due to rust. Bondo is gasoline resistant and flexible, so it can be used as a temp fix when in a pinch. I've used it on beaters before & it lasted for 6 months plus.

(Leagle & moral disclaimer-you should really just replace a damaged tank. Do not use bondo on pressure lines of any sort. Always wear safety glasses. Do not drink gasoline, not good. Gas in the eyes hurts, but gas in your ear hurts like h#&!. 2x4, the Bonneville Club or any of its entities not responsible for any damage,injury,death or monetary losses due to this advise.)

$106 for a new tank isnt bad at all.

I would never use bondo to fix a gas leak, that is a band-aid solution. I had to replace the tank in my bonne and I think the tank ended up coming from a Cadillac, at least that is what was written on the tank. Check your local garages, they usually have sources for tanks and other parts that will help you out, and maybe not have to pay shipping.

According to the parts lists, the tanks found in 89-91, 92-95 and 96-97 supercharged vehicles are all the same: 25625215. The sending units will be different though. Personally, I would not repair a leaking tank, I'd replace.

Note: I've learned that these parts lists are not 100% accurate but the above information was obtained from 3 different sources and should be correct.

EDIT: thanks for the link 2x4. That looks like a grest source for fuel system parts. I paid $118 at Advance for my sending unit for the 90 where it is $90 on that site. I wish they had the flexible lines that connect the sending unit to the steel lines though. They are a little expensive from the dealer.

how hard is it to pull a gas tank? how much do you think it would be to ship?

Drain fuel
Raise and properly support rear of car. Remove the left rear wheel to make it easier to crawl under the car and access components.
Place large piece of cardboard under tank area
Remove filler & vent tubes
Disconnect supply, return and vent lines (Sometimes easier said than done on our cars. Corrosion is usually found on the lines and connections making the steel lines brittle)
Support tank with floor jack and a piece of plywood that will fit between the 2 tank straps (about 12" x 12")
Loosen and remove tank strap bolts
Remove straps
Gently lower tank.Disconnect electrical connector. Slide tank off of plywood onto cardboard. Use cardboard to assist in sliding tank from under car.

It'* not too difficult but it sure is a stinky job. Wear some cloths that you can throw away when you are done.

Unsure on the shipping costs.

Bondo says their product is resistant to gasoline.
Has anyone tried it.
The reason I ask is my Supra leaks when you fill it above 3/4.
Waiting for a warm spring day to check it out.
