Default Under-hood light problem

Ever since i've owned my car, the light under the hood has failed to work. I've checked the obvious, and the bulb is good, socket is clean, etc. I think that the problem is in the switch, which is activated when the hood opens.

So... Just where is this switch, anyway? I followed the wire from the socket all the way to the firewall, so it must be hidden somewhere. Is it by one of the hinges? And how do i get to it?

Or is there a more likely explanation for my problem?

Turn your headlights or at least your parking lights on. Mine only works that way.

Huh, sure enough.

It would be nice if you could switch it on manually though, like the one on some chevy trucks, with a detachable light on a cord. Nice setup. I suppose that if I was motivated I could find one of those and wire it to my car.

The problem is that my garage is kinda dark, even with the lights on. I have a trouble light, and I use it, but i hate working around that cord. At least I know my car isn't broken.

Mine works the same way--doesn't make sense to me!! Gotta figure out a way to re-wire it.

Ahhh yes this problem. That was for will. Yes they actually have a kit you can buy and they use the stock Chevy unit. Easy really. Ill dig it up and offer it if no one else finds it.

That'* a pretty nice one. Had one on my 93 Chevy pickup. It would reach either rear tire, and it had a magnetic base. My 98 Z71 came without one. I really miss that sucker.

Next time I'm at a yard I'm gonna look for one. Was there a specific model or yrs that they came on? Back in 93 my x-bil had a new Chevy w/it--1st time I saw one!
