Can't read ABS codes
I bought an GM Code Reader today to try to figure out why the ABS lamp is always on (and service engine to for that matter).
Service engine returned code 26, wish I found a post for here http://www.bonnevilleclub.com/forum/...light=ecm+code, even though I don't understand where to begin search for that error... I meen it'* a needle in a heystack - "relay or solenoid is shorted out somewhere", well then I just have to tear down the whole car then... well, well, I can live with that error...
But ABS lamp is more enoying - it'* a good thing to have in the snow. Problem is, I get no codes at all! The Code Reader manual says "check the circuitry" if I get no codes... Nightmare!!! :?
Actually, I bought this car thinking it was a good thing to have a smart computer onboard telling what need to be changed, but problem arrise when the computer isn't working...
Can ECM code 26 and the fact I get no ABS diagnose be related?

Hi.. first off.. please go to profile and put your year and model in the signature area. Currently we have no idea what you are driving and asking questions about. This information will help greatly.
That quad driver that code 26 refers to only controls a few things. The answer to fixing that is simply reviewing each of those items and fixing the one that is not functioning properly. Not tearing down the car. There'* no need to go that far. The code is telling you to look at something specific.
ABS codes are something that is typically only able to be read by a Tech 2 reader. These are usually found at dealerships due to the cost of purchasing one.

I have a Bonneville SSE 1991.
I am not a car mecanic, maybe that'* why I seem not to understand what everybody else seems to understand... For instance I read (about code 26);
"Backprone PCM QDM "A", "GC4", "GC5", and "GC6" terminal(*) for voltage with DVM to ground."
I work as a computer programmer, and I guess I could trough out a bounch of words that might sound like mumbo-jumbo for other people, just as I think about the above... :?

Did the 91 SSE still have the Teves or did Pontiac go t the Delco like Buick ? Does the 91 still have the "C" 3800 or did it go to the "L" ("snakes" intake).. Need to know which before can say that a code 26 means.

It is supposed to have "Teves II".

If a Teves you read the error codes by shorting pin A to pin H on the ALDL connector (where a scan tool goes) and count the flashes od the ABS light. Each will be two digits, the first set of flashes, a pause, and the second set. After each completes, leave the key on and R&R the jumper. The next set of flashes will start. When done on the last connection the ABS light will just stay on steady.

I guess code reader does that, shortening A to pin H on the ALDL connector. But the problem is that I get no blink from the ABS lamp at all - just a steady lit light as always...

I plan to change calipers and disks in front of the car because I have an annoying noise when driving (brakes always a bit on).
So, should I change the abs sensors while I am at it? The computer don't give me any clues to what is wrong :? - I get no codes at all. What do you folks think?

Do you have both red (brake) and yellow (ABS) lights on ? If just the ABS and the light is on steady when you apply the jumpers that means the EBCM (ABS) module is not working. The 1990 manual (page 5E1-42 (lamp on and no codes) suggests to first check for a blown 10A fuse #8.

The fuse is ok. The ABS light is on steady regardless if I apply the jumpers or not - it'* allways on...
I also have a 1990 service manual that I am trying to consult (have some difficultys understanding the technical language though ), but it seems like something is different in my 1991 car...
I don't know if previous owner of my car has done something "bad" with the car, because some cables seems to be cut and re-wired just under the stearing column. I really hope that it'* not something serious like that he removed the ABS-box or something, because then I will have no choise oher then to send the car do destruction :( (ABS system must work in cars in sweden).
I called a salvage yard today to find out if there are any used ABS modules available - and there is! He described the box as a box 10x20x2.5 cm in aluminum with gold top and bottom.
Anyway, I have found a box now, but I am not sure if this is the EBCM module, or if this is something different. I have took some pictures - maybe some of you clever guys out there can give me a helping hand...
