Default Fastest 87-91 style Bonneville?

I know that Bonneville'* in general are not a car that most people " soup up " or modify, especially the early models. But like any car there are people who are nuts errr..I mean really passionate about their cars, I can safely say I fit into that group. I did a semi ram air on mine last weekend and also took out the MAF screen too. That and the cool morning temps have made a noticable improvement (10+HP?) So I know that these cars can be made quicker. What I'm trying to get at with all this babbling is has anyone with an early style Bonny run theirs at a 1/4 mile track? Or ever seen one go, if so what were the times? I've wondered for awhile now what kind of times the " fastest " early style has run. Like I said before I can't see there even being that many to have ever gone down a 1/4 mile track. I'm thinking of taking mine just to find out what it'* capable of...L8r...Andru.

Just get rid of that trans! Put in a 4T60-E in the least! This THM-440-T4 was the 4T60-E'* forefather!

Tim: I was talking about 87-91, not Bonnies overall. I don't think anyone will be touching Scott'* 2000 for a long time That car is amazing!
So I guess anyone with an early style who goes and gets a 1/4 mile time would be the fastest until proved wrong? Mine feels quicker then the 17.1 I've seen on a couple of websites thst rank 1/4 mile times for cars. Guess I'll have to go and find out.

IF it'* been replaced at GM it will have different markings because it would be an AC Delco Reman instead!

I am not sure of the bolt pattern of the engine and transaxle but you could swap in a series 2 SC Engine and you can go crazy. I don’t think it would be too hard. Also you could swap in a v8 but either will do.

All I have done is a custom air intake, almost identical to yours Tim. Except the tube that goes into the MAF is from my 96 Camaro. I've also removed the MAF screen and taken out the spare and jack. If I had to guess I'd say 16.5 @ 82-84MPH...anyone else?
BTW...Ty your right with a V8 and a little shot of juice this car would really move, I'm just not sure that the rest of the car would stay together very long :?

The shame about the 90 vintage SSE like mine is it is the most stable car at high speed I've ever driven but the weak drive train and fwd doesn't lend itself to big power increases. It may not look as aerodynamic as the "round bodied" newer car, but man they got the aero package just right on the early one. It feels exactly the same at 120 as it does at 70, but It would take a butt load of money to make it go 140-150. I hope when I get my 94 or 95 it is half as stable at speed as my old one was.

I know what you mean, but mine still pulled just as hard as ever (synth. oil kept wear to a minimum) they just dont have serious power to start with.
