Default Moon roof swap

I have a 1989 Bonneville SSE the moon roof gears are stripped and the moon roof needs to be pushed by hand otherwise it grinds and doesnt open. It was already fixed once and is now broken again. I have a 1991 Bonneville SSE that is my parts car and the moon roof works fine. I was wondering if it is a fairly complicated procedure to remove one moon roof and replace it with the other or should I let a professional do it ?

You may only have to change the motor. The gear is on it that drives the cables.

Well I dont think its the motor

it grinds and its rather loud...u have to push the glass back to get it to go into the full open position. the pop up function works....the gear or what have you has been already repaired by the previous owner once...it needed something welded

Default motor

The gearbox and motor are all part of a one piece assembly.
The actual roof slides on a track with cables that you could see when the roof is open.
I just replaced mine on my 90 SSE.

Might want to check Mazda'*, I understand RX-7s of the same period used the same moonroof.

Kool thanks...I dont need a new moon roof tho. I already have one that works perfectly fine in the 1991 Parts car. I am more concerned with the complexity of the swap.

I think getting the headliner out in salvagable condition will be the hardest part.
