Default gear ratios

Are the gear ratios for a V6 cutlass supreme sl the same as an 88 SSE? I took the tranny frm the cutlass and put it in the SSE, I was told their were interchangeable. The car shifts fine with some adjustments I made to the TV cable and vacuum modulator valve, they just seem a little higher than what I have heard many of you who are experts here say they should be. I am installing a new tach to check and see if mine is reading correctly. I will chk your responses and give you my findings tomorrow.

the cutlass was a 90. My bonne is an 88 sse. Could that be contributing to my abnormally high rpm shifts?

And there were diffrences in the gear ratio... in 88 the only ratio used with the SSE was the 2.97 Gear ratio...

In 89 you could have had the 2.97 or the 3.33 ratio...
the 3.33 didnt start till 1990 in the sse

Default Re: gear ratios

Question on the same line. Can the gear ratios be changed during rebuild?

Let say you start out with a 2.97 final drive ratio transmission, can the components that make the final drive ratio 3.33 be installed in it? Or is there something different in the transmission case that prevents it?

(Just thinking out loud.. might be interested in taking my 90 LE and giving it a quicker transmission ratio)
