Default removing sheet metal

Can I cut out the piece of sheet metal covering the back of the rear seat? I want to install subs soon and I think that metal is going to cause a problem. Is it structural or can I just remove it?

It provides some structural integrity, but you can do without it. Unless you are going autocross racing with the car, I doubt you'll notice any difference.
