Seafoam? HELP!
 

I was gonna go pick up some seafoam and run it through the combustion chambers. Now I have seen that people say to run it through the brake booster line? or SOMETHING like that.

But besides WHERE to put it, HOW do I do it? My current thought would be...disconnect the line, pour in the seafoam, reconnect the line, start the engine and viola!

Is is that MASSIVE line coming off the front of the brake booster?

That is too much too soon I think. You will want to use one of the smaller vac lines...like the one that goes to climate control.

Ok see, NOW you will have to re-explain everything. Because now you have me completely puzzled.

And why is that too much too fast?

Can you add it slowly while the engine is running?

Alright man, I'll clear it up for you.

What you want to do is disconnect one of the small vacuum lines. You see where the vac mod, FPR, vac reserve, and charcoal canister all plug in? Any of those will be fine. Unplug any of those, and hook up an appropriate sized line. Place the line in the bottle about an inch from the bottom. [It is easier to have two people], have someone start the car and tell them to keep the engine running. It will require quite a bit of throttle on some engines [our's aren't that bad]. Then once there is about an inch left of seafoam, shut the engine off and wait 15 minutes. BTW, you get best results with a hot engine.

Now that method will clean out quite a bit of gunk, but there is a little bit extra you can do. Remember, seafoam and lucas injector cleaner are non-solvent, like regular fuel injector cleaners that eat fuel pumps. You can run as much of this stuff as you want without harm, and I have done this on several cars with i'm sure old fuel pumps with no problems. Before seafoaming in the vac line, get your tank down to 1/4 tank. Use one bottle in the vac line, then grab three bottles of seafoam, and two of lucas inj cleaner [small tobasco sized bottle]. While waiting the 15 min, pour all these into the tank [including the leftovers].

Once the 15min wait is up, fire up the car, and go racing. Now is the time to push the car... throttle is less important than RPM [but why would you want RPM w/o throttle?]. Ever heard of an italian tune up? Put the car in 2nd and go 55 [depends on car, but you want 3500-4000rpm] for a minute. If you have serious carbon buildup [150k will do that], this will loosen it all up and clean the crap out of your injectors. However, because you will be beating on the car, and the seafoam by nature makes the car use more gas, you will get not very far out of that 1/4 tank. But once you fillup all will be back to normal.

THANK YOU OSG. That clears it RIGHT up. NOW. I think I have a spare o2 around SOMEWHERE. Would it be a good idea to use that one while I am doing this? But if I can't find it, will I be ok with this one?

I haven't had it kill an o2 however it's very possible to do so. If you have a new delco in there, throw on the old one just in case. if it's time to upgrade, maybe it's time to upgrade ;).

you can do it through the brake booster line, but you need to pour it into the line at a controlled rate instead of just putting the line into the can and letting it suck it up.

the booster line is too big, and the smaller lines are much easier and guaranteed correct. The more important factor is a consistant heavy stream of seafoam throughout engine so when you let it sit for 15min it'll break loose the carbon evenly.
