RPM gage jumping

ok well today after i was doing some 100MPH freeway cruising, i came into town and when i was actually going the speed limit (25MPH) the RPM gage was jumping from like 1200RPM to 600 and back ever couple of seconds, no touching the gas at all what-so-ever...was it thast i was right on the low end shift point between 1st and second or 2nd and third or something? I was thinking it was between 2nd and 3rd and the engine could not make up its mind....but just checking to see if this is a preliminary sign of something or something...Thanks!

Well, you'd feel the car slipping/starting to shift if it was at a shift point, and plus, your shift up/shift down points are quite a ways apart.. so thats not likely the case... it could be something drawing power, and your engine keeping up with the demand on the alternator...

Could you feel the actual engine idle change with the gauge?

On ocassion when you get into a coast mode, the ECM can get a little funky with the idle.. Happens to mine every now and again too.. ;)
