Well i know cruise control is sort of well stupid, but recently i have been driving long distances and well it gets annoying having to regulate speed all the time while trying to watch the road at the same time. Anyways, My CCS is all rusted and all, and the actuator is sorta sticky. So it might be that, but then there is the CCM and since i don't even know where that is located, i don't know where to go to replace it. They are both rather expensive, but if can find wither one or both in a salvage yard, heck save a bunch of money. But I don't know which to replace. Basically, when i go to engage the cruise...umm well nothing happens. So help me out and tell me what you think is wrong. Thanks.

There are a lot of things that can affect the cruise

Is the mechanical linkage free?

The servo is vacuum operated, are the vacuum lines intact and do you have vacuum? The CCM operates a couple of vacuum solenoids. These could be stuck or the connections corroded.

Is the fuse good?

The CCM is a small plastic box under the dash somewhere. I think it might be under the driver'* side, but it'* been a while since I had to replace one. If I recall correctly, it has a single connector on it. Check the connector. These things do go bad, so if you have another one, it'* an easy test to swap it.

The crusie switch and/or wiring harness may also have a fault

It'* also possible you're not getting a speed signal to the CCM

I know GM has a TSB for the cruise control problem. I'm still trying to figure it out, but will wait till summer. I don't use it unless i'm highway travelling for VERY long distances, and even then, I rarly use it at all, gets better gas mileage that way.

I think the brake switch is what causes the problem. Don't get parts from the yard, its likely that they won't work as well, as many cars were affected with this problem.

thats exactly what i figured, it doesnt seem any car'* cruise works at my year...but..i have been driving long distances... about 600 miles in the last 2 days...foot getting tired....

Does it work at all? I thought it might be the brake switch, which could be leaking air back into the servo?

I find that after I brake, the cruise does NOT work at all, and if it does, the guess i got lucky. I find there are some times when it actually works, and works well, but once I turn it off VIA brake, or another switch, it will not work again for a while.

no actually it does not work at all...nothing whatsoever happens when the Cruise is engaged...also, is there supposed to be a light that goes on when cruise is engaged?

ok so nhow that i know there is supposed to be a light, the problem is probably that either the switch is bad or the CCM is bad....right?
