Default Really Stupid Question........

Hey all, was just kinda wondering, what caculates the info for the DIC? Does the Odemoter play a role (mine of corse is not working) or is it in the Computer? I read a post on fixing the odemoter, but it seem'* ike a summer job.

If your talking about maitenence info on the DIC, nothing calculates it. It is manually set. Hold down the DIC button and you'll figure it out.

yes, but what tell'* it when you need to change your oil, etc... does the odemoter have to be working, or how does the unit know when 3000 miles has passed (or what ever mileage it is set for)?

They probably split the signal from the ECM to both the odometer and the DIC. The DIC does not run off the odometer, they're completely separate. If the odometer quits and the DIC is still working, you can still get a decent idea of the mileage.

I see what you are getting at. Like stated the signal is probably sent to both devices. The signal is still being sent to the odometer, but it is merely a mechanical device that has physically stopped working.

Per the FSM it is split and sent to both places. The odometer and the DIC.
