relays
1989 Bonneville LE
What are the two relays near the air box mounted on to the mounting plate of the air box. One of them is ticking very loud. Should i replace it???
Also where can we get good aftermarket parts for our cars??? (Mechanical and Asthetic)

Those are your coolant fan relays. One for LO fan and the other for HI fan. There is a third if you have the V08 heavy duty package RPO.
When you say "ticking" do you mean like once every second or so? It should click when it'* time to turn the fan(*) on but not tick like a clock. If you touch the housing of a relay you can usually feel the contacts switching. Verify that the ticking is coming from the relays and not something else nearby. A test light would be more accurate if you have one of those around.

There isn't really an aftermarket for our cars.. if you give something more specific you are looking for, we may be able to help.. but our cars aren't really in 'the loop' if you know what I mean.

the ticking seems to defineatly be coming out of the relay. I believe it is the left one (looking at the front of the car). The ticking ticks as fast as you can repetively say tick. If that helps...

With the climate control OFF and the car less than 195* or so, the fans should not be told to come on by the ECM. This is definately a wierd one...
You can unplug them one at a time to find out which one is ticking. Make a note of the wire colors and let us know. I'd like to find out which one it is and work our way through a solution. Are the fans turning while this ticking is ocurring?

What are the odds it could be the purge solenoid on the charcoal canister? The Purge solenoid does become louder in the colder months and more noticable. I just noticed mine yesterday clicking at about the same pace.

I'm thinking charcoal canister. I know mine ticks quite loudly. Have you tried the mechanic'* stethescope yet (long screwdriver held against your ear and the possible noise causes)? That should narrow it down quickly.
