Default Factory sound system

The radio setup in my car is ok-but the speakers are starting to crackle-- looks like I'll have to re-wire the whole deal myself.
Does anyone know if the stock speakers are 8 ohms? How would you get some 4 ohm speakers to sound good in there? Just for the hell of it I put some really good tri-axles in there-and they sounded like subs!! all lows came out! I wired 2 6x9'* in there together and it sounded sooo clear-it was great! But I sure as hell don't want 4 6x9'* back there! Any ideas how to make the one setup(2 speakers in the rear shelf)sound good?
does anyone have speakers in the dash? The stock system comes w/8 speakers, but no fronts!! Weird! I put a set of 4x6'* in there-and it sounds pretty decent. but those damn stockers are crackling!
Sorry if it sounds like I'm rambling.

before i give any advice ill tell u my setup. i got 2 kenwood 4 way 6x9 in the rear, 2 polk 4x6 in the front and 2 subs in the trunk. tweaters soon to come!

as for the crackly u hear, its probably not the wiring. mine crackled too and it was because i blew the stock speakers. all of my speakers are running off stock wires cuz rewireing the car is a bitch.

im not sure on the impeadence levels of the stock speakers...i just looked at the stock 6x9s from my my car and they said 10 ohms and the ones from my brother bonnie were 4 ohms. when i upgraded they sounded fine. but like i said a new cd player never hurts and will sound fine with 4 ohm speakers

if you want i can tell you what kind of speakers would make yr system sound really nice, i jsut need to know how big your stock speakers are. a new cd player wouldnt hurt either.

Thanks for the reply. I know it'* not the wiring causing the crackiling--I like my music and bass loud--and the stockers couldn't hang! I tried some 4 ohm Panasonics and then some Rockfords--neither one sounded clear.
I was able to grab a factory cd player from a 93-95 SSE-but I can't get the steering wheel controls to work(another problem). so that'* the head unit I'm using--which is good for now.
It'* not that bad to re-wire the stereo--just gotta give yourself a weekend to do it right.

i lucked out, my LE doesnt have anything but a horn on the wheel so when i took out the tape player and put in the cd player it took no more than an hour. wiring the subs tooks a little longer (the hole in the fire wall is way too small) if you like it loud i can give u some suggestions on what to get. just drop me a line with some info if yr interested.

I'm not really looking for a ghetto blaster--just some nice loud clarity--w/some booming. I can do everything--only the steering wheel controls won't work--which would be nice.
Do you have any pics of your setup? I really like a clean install where nothing can be seen--just heard!

right now my system doesnt sound very good cuz my pioneer is at the factory being repaired. so im running of a 20x4 sony tape player from the early 90s. sound like *** but it gets the job done while i wait.

as for the general sound. with the pioneer cd player the kenwoods and polks sound extremely clear. my subs BOOM really loud. the best part is i have it set up so only I can hear it. someone if a car next to me or a person standing at least 15 ft away can hardly hear the bass.

ill try and get some pics of the speaker set up by tomorrow. BTW my subs arent pretty (they are blown) but i have nice ones comming once i get some more money.

I agree with you Tony, I like my stereo to look good and clean like it came from the factory. I have a 91 LE and I ended up with the Door speaker covers, just like yours and the speakers along with the Delco Loc ETR stereo.... Had to tear it all apart to get it to function because of the LOC crapp.. Also had the AMP/TUNER section fry on me... So I took on off an old oldsmobile stereo, damn for stock it sounds good.... The factory speakers in my car were 6x9'* in the rear at 4 ohms and the fronts were 4x6 at 9.5 ohms... I had all of the parts from the other Bonnie, so I added and wired the door speakers to the front channels, I got pioneer 2 way 4x6'* in the dash, and sony xplod 5 1/4'* in the front doors and pioneer 2 way 6x9'* in the rear deck, all of these speakers are at 4 ohms... Thinking about 3 way pioneer 6x9'* in the back.... All ran by the factory stereo... And I know how you feel about those steering wheel controlls, I think the old Bonnies had the best set up.. Didn't even have to take your hand from the wheel to adjust the stereo or the AC.... And all the buttons light up at night......
rear 6x9'* were 4ohms? Weird--My aftermarket speakers are 4 ohms and they sounded like **** back there--no clarity at all. But my car is an SSE and has that weaird factory setup--does yours too? Or just a straight forward setup?

The rear deck has 6x9'* back there w/tweeters(seperately) There'* no external factory amps that I saw. I also have the 2 sets of speakers w/tweets in each front door too. definitely doesn't have the bose in it.
The new speakers didn't crack-but just sounded like subs--all lows were coming out--until I wired 2 sets of 6x9'* in paralell(sp?)then they sounded crisp and clear! but I sure as hell don't want 4 6x9'* back there.
I have a newer Bonne factory cd player in there--so it'* not going bad either.
I just want to put a good set of speakers w/a nice aftermarket amp--nothing radical--just nice.

my brother uses a kenwood amp to power his componet tweaters and 6.5s and they sound really clear both are also kenwood. i use kenwood 6x9 wich produce better highs than my 4x6 and nasty lows.

if you want clear highs i would have to recomend either a set of kenwood tweaters and/or infinity 4x6.

did u say u had 4 6x9s in the back...wanna trade cars...i would kill to be able to fit that many speakers. i could probably waste at least $5k on a system for that car.

if you want u could get a pair of either rockford or infinity 6x9s (both produce nasty lows) and amp them with at least 200w with a low pass. instead of putting a second pair of 6x9s u could put in either 6.5s or 5.25s with a high pass so u get good mids out of it.

same setup could go for the doors. set it up so u get clear, defined mids and let a pair of tweaters pull out most of the highs.

im not sure how your deck is for watts per channel but looking at a crutchfield mag right now i can say a decent audiobahn 105w x 4 amp would run u about $500. you would want a separate amp for the 6x9 (id recomend either rockford or alpine)...im rambling and probably making no sense...sorry

I'm far from a radio expert-but-I wired 4 6x9'* to see if they would clear up--which they did--but I don't want 4 6x9'* back there-so I put the factory speakers back til I figure out something.
when I mean parelell(damnit!) I just wired the 2 speakers together on one side and unhooked the factory tweets--I put in tri-axles(3 ways).
when I'm eventually finished I just want 1 amp w/some decent speakers and a cd player.
Hmm--I wouldn't mind keeping the factory tweets in there--save a few $$.
