Rear doors?
 

My 90 SSE rear doors have not worked in years. I had them fixed once like 3 yrs ago and it lasted a short time then both stoped working again.I just left them broke as this is my daily driver to and from work and it's just my wife and I using the car.But there have been times I wanted to put the dogs back there and could not. Any help as to why both go, is it mechanical or electrical? Thanks ,Christian

seems like the lock mechanism has frozen from inactivity. spray some lubricant in there if you can get them open at all. i dont know any tricks for opening them up maybe if you could take the door panel off and get to them from inside the door? but that might be hard

I've got the same problem: Rear Doors do not open. Other than "looking", I havn't had the chance to dive into the issue (although everything points to a frozen or broken lock mechanism). Just wondering though, this seems very common with these cars. Had GM Uncharacteristically made a significantly unreliable part? With my 91 ,(according to the former owner) My Passenger side was always inoperable, and then within the last 5 or 6 months, The Driver's side went on strike as well. :beerchug:
A friend of mine has a 98 GP, which is in shockingly bad shape besides it's interior. His rear doors have the opposite issue (wont close!), So he cruises around with a Tow-Strap firmly connecting the doors to each other! :lol: I jokingly ask him how his 4door Coupe' is running every so often. :P

Yeh, I wasn't sure if it was a common problem or not. It must be a bad part in the doors. I also have a problem when I hit the door locks when getting out, the passanger door has to be pushed down manualy by me, especially in the colder months or it will not lock.I think that just requires so lub on the door mech but once again you have to tear into the door for that. I will eventually get around to investagating further on the rear doors. Car has a ton of miles on it so I can't complain to much :lol:

Are the exterior door buttons 'limp' when you press them?

Ya know I'm not sure, it's ben so long sinse I tryed to open them :oops: , but I think they are limp. Yeh, good way to describe it, you press it and nothing happens just limp.Yes

I've got a Driver's side rear with the door button (outside) absolutely frozen and then i've got the passenger side completely stuck in. :lol: Its a mess. What do you guys think of that? Both interior handles "feel" just like they should, but do nothing by the way.

I'm fairly confident in being able to pop those door panels off with the doors being inoperable but I'm not exactly looking forward to it. :bash:

"limp" or jammed door handles may be more likely a problem involving the door handle mechanism itself. It's been a while (read: about 5 years) since I've seen the inards of a Bonneville door handle, but I do remember that there is a pin-like mechanism that tends to jam and render the button inoperative.

If the door handles feel like they should, I'd be checking more into sticky door locks. If mine were periodically sticky I'd cycle the power door locks several times quickly, this may work in a pinch but is not a permanent solution.

Wow nice link. Looks like that's something I could do as well. Thanks a lot for the info. It pays to keep old info for just such a reason. I have yet to tear into them now that it's cold I will probable wait till spring. Thanks again.
