quick an d cheap Cat

Not looking for sound or performance, just looking for a step above buying a no name auto parts chain cat for my '87 bonnie. Wondering if anyone has any decent recommendations (of course flow / sound would be a plus)

Ive been away from this forum tooooo long! I've been busy on the classic pontiacs forum due to my new '65 bonneville!

I'd think you could do the ebay high flow..I think magnaflows..not sure which universal. I forget the pipe size on your era . Someone will chime in any second now.

magnaflow eh? I'm intrigued.
I'll run some ebay searches for some cheap magnaflows. How about flowmasters? Any good from them people?

I'd measure my own exhaust's outer diameter (or rather outer circumference, and divide by 2pi, to be sure I got the right one) Then i'd just saw off old one and clamp on new one.

Keep suggestions coming guys!

2.25" for you sir.

Sawing it off and clamping on a new one won't work. That's why my exhaust is still sitting in my backyard. No offense, but i'd just go to an exhaust shop.. I wish I did. And I hate people working on my car.

Good luck :)

Magnaflow on Ebay.....$57.52 shipped if I recall correctly. I just bought one for my car a few weeks ago.

Mine is donated from "a truck". Had to be done after a hollowed out cat was discovered after failing emissions horribly when we got the car.

Old cat cut out, new one sectioned in.

Lasted four years, and then the area in which it was joined broke just a couple weeks ago, causing the exhaust to be open and hanging down just behind the cat. I'm surprised my ears didn't bleed. But hey, dad and I went home, he plugged in the welder, rejoined the pipe, and bzzzzzzzzzzzt. Not the prettiest solution, but it'll hold.

This cat gives me resonance right below 2000rpm - just a bit *different* from other Vin C 3800's I hear. I think it might be akin to that of a 3800-powered Grand Prix, only considerably louder. I wish I could tell you the donor car.

This is where I get my exahust stuff at ;)

i could rent a welder i guess (been putting off buying one forever). I've done some welding before...

Anyone ever try band clamp style exhaust clamps? I heard they're OK.

And what's so bad about the old school exhaust clamps. I know they could leak but are they so notorious?
