Default transmission upgrade parts

Are there any parts available for our ancient trannys? Are they simple part swaps or does it take a great deal of skill? I have to replace or repair mine soon but if I could upgrade at the same time that would be sweet.

The remanufactured transmissions from AC Delco (1990 3.31/GX3 is p/n 24212205 - GMPD is quoting $1,210.83 plus their usual creative shipping charges) have all of the upgrades and TSBs pulled. There were quite a few since production began on the 440T4 but the 1990 is one of the later ones. (2.97/F79 is 24212204, 2.84/F17 is 24212203) - same part numbers for 1989-1991. Think can be used on earlier cars but will need to change the halfshafts and/or the VSS.

Well the thing is that Ive got a 2.97 (i think) that Im probably going to swap into my car in the next year, so Im looking for things that can be changed while the motor and tranny are apart and out of the car.

There isn't a whole lot you can do. I too, have looked into this.. but without really tearing the whole thing apart, there isn't much. My suggestion is just grab a new tranny [GX3 of course], and a 4T60-E vacuum modulator.. everything else I see possible would require tearing apart.. and a new tranny would defeat that purpose.

I think it may be possible to modify a Turbo 400 shift kit.. but I don't know.. there is that one modifing thing for vacuum, but I would like to see it in person to see exactly what it does. It may only be some POS that only modifies the vacuum to the modulator, or it could be something cool.. but yeah. Right now, there isn't a single thing that is made for our transmissions. It is very possible that mods for the 4T60-E could fit onto our trannies.. but then again they are completely different.. so who knows? Maybe drilling out the valve body or something.. HD-Clutches.. idk. Nobody has modified our trannies... but if you think of something, I will probably be apt to going in on a group buy [of course if it price is right]. Take a look at your FSM [you DO have an FSM, right?], look at the fluid flow diagrams and such for your tranny. See what you can find that could be modified. You know what reg. shift kits include? Well, check those out, and see what you can do.
