The thing you have to remember, you have a 16 year old car. No matter how you look at it, nothing is going to be perfect. Now, of course it may seem like a lot of **** to break in a short period of time, but it could have been this stuff was a problem before and was either not fixed right then, or it only now became apparent. If you have had the car for 6mo [lets say], and this is the first thing you have needed to fix on the car, I'd say you are damn lucky. Old cars all have their share of problems, we all know what it'* like. Just keep with her.

Cars been really great, ive had it for a year and a half and put 45,000km on it and ive put in my fair share of work but the gas leak I suspected, just lately its showed it self. The coil was just from old age I guess. But I do a lot of driving. I just dont like stearing issues because I know nothing about it, and its a pain in the *** to get to. Besides htat I can fix other parts except tranny related issues.
ANy ideas about the cracking noises?
Its even louder now

my 88 is making those cracking noises too. hopefully it'* nothing too serious :( mine only does it when I turn left, and the left wheel only. (a least it'* not as bad as my dad'* 92 grand am, we've decided we broke the driver'* front strut.( dirt road ruts and "sports" cars don't mix )

I was just talking to a fellow bonnerville owner at my work and he was telling me that it sounds like the cv joints are bad. IF not that, than the other stearing section. I suck with the stearing stuff I know onthing about it

It could be your upper strut mount bushings ( I think that is the name), basically your spring sits on this and I have had them seize before on other cars and instead of turning when you turn your wheel, they stay in place, which then twists the coils and may release giving you the cracking noise.
One way to check is to get someone to get inside the car and turn the wheel from left to right and see if the coils rotate or if the top stays put.

If you have a jack, put the car up, and try shaking the wheel. A few of us have had bad ball joints recently...

Wwwwwait.... My Passenger'* front tire sits strange.. and when I raise the car off the wheels it has some SERIOUS toe-in.. and it too will occasionally have a weird noise when making a hard [HARD] turn more than 90*.. like an on-ramp or something.

Bad news from the garage guys.
Timing chain sensor problem, $600 repair because they have to remove the timing chain and install a new one.. Its a possible CV joint problem, if the noise is not gone after repair, than I have internal Tranmission problems. I asked them to go ahead with the CV joint repair anyways I rather try to fix the problem rather than saying its the tranny , hopefully it will be that CV problem and not the tranny but its not sounding good.
:(
