Default A couple of specifics on a coil swap...

Ok.. I found that one of the terminals on my coil pack was shot.. so, I want to replace the coil pack... and have a couple questions... first, where is the ECM located at? I keep reading that you need the ECM along with the coil pack.. is that mounted directly under the coil pack? with all the fins?

Second: Can the coil pack and ECM come off of any newer GM V6? Or does it have to come off of a 3800?

Third: The mounting bracket, does it have to be off of a 92-95 Bonne for it to be a direct bolt up? I don't have materials and tools at hand to fabricate a bracket...

And before I get flamed for checking the TechInfo... I did, and didn't find this swap in there anywhere...

You need the ICM, not the ECM. The ICM (Ignition Control Module) is located right under the coils.

When I did my swap, I used the coils, ICM, and mounting plate from a '97 Supercharged Grand Prix.

Yeah, I meant the ICM... sorry, and thanks for the info on that...

jr3800: No big rush.. I just wanted to know which I could grab.. once I've got that figured out, I'm all good... just about to head to one of the wreckers here in town to get a new set of coils, since I have a bad one...

Well, I found a set of delco'*... with the lower resistance... I pulled it off of a 3300 at Pick 'n' Pull... grabbed the bracket it used too, and didn't need it.. lol... it bolted right to the old place... the car was about the same year as mine.. but I noticed the plug running to the ICM had 2 wires that were very corroded.. so this weekend I'm going to splice in a new plug... I think the car is a little more peppy now... but it could just be that cylinder 5 is firing proper now.. since it has a smoother idle...
