Andy Blew a Rod
Andy, a new user here with the '91 Olds 98, blew a rod in the engine after 197K. It'* strange hearing this on a 3800.
It really sucks for him, he is probably just going to get a new engine.
Has this ever happened before to any of you?

That'* what happened. This car was making a terrible knock. He told me to look at it, but I don't have any mechanical experience. I knew something was very wrong, so I told him to get it looked at. And sure enough, the rod went.
BTW, this car had many problems before. I think the past owner didn't take care of it very well, and when it was bought 3 months ago, it wasn't given a proper tune up and check up.

i broke a rod in a pulling truck i built for my uncle back in 91. the tell tale tach read 7600 rpms when he let go.
it broke the cam, distributor, wedged a lifter sideways in the cam passage. took out 3 other rods and 5 pistons skirts. it drove the cam back and thats what took out the distributor and took it right into the flywheel. i was amazed with all the damage it caused. the only thing left to the motor that was goos was the heads and intake. everything else was junk
