Default Power antenna not so power anymore...

The other day I decided to drive my car after finally getting it all back together and doesnt the power antenna crap out? it goes up fine,. but when it retracts it seems like the motor is detached from the end of the mast and it keeps trying to retract until I manually push the antenna down. Do I need a 88-91 unit or can I use one from a newer model?

The flexible plastic string inside must have detached from the top telescopeing piece, a replacement antenna doesnt have to be from another bonneville, you can by cheap universal replacement ones at most any local autoparts store or radio shack. ive done this twice.

good luck

I replaced mine with a generic model that I picked up off the internet for about $40 (US). It came with the antenna & motor assembly, wiring, relay, and extra plastic peices to match the angle on the fender. I did not need to use the relay, because the original one was still good. I just had to check the wiring and antenna function to figure out which color was the correct '1' '2' or '3' position on the relay. ( this was before I had a factory service manual)

if you dont need the power antenna you can always replace it with a generic antenna for very cheap also. but you could also try a junkyard for a replacement motor...

naw naw. go with what has been recomended many many times. go OE. don't go aftermarket. they suck

get one from a 99 bonne, open it up, grease it all up inside and replace. it'll last for a LOOOOONG time.

Check on eBay, too. I picked up a genuine, brand new GM power antenna on there a while back for $25.
