When I first got it I disconnected a terminal to reset the computer after i replaced the cam sensor. No go. I have never had a dead battery

Yesterday when I put the new interruptor in, I unhooked the terminal. Then this morning I put it all back together and screwed the terminal back in. The service engine soon light wasnt on and the stalling problem was completely gone!

You're good for another 100K miles now. Just do the AC Delco ignition conversion, and you'll get as good mileage as a 4cyl VW. ;)

I was going to try and explain..

The Cam sensor/Interupter thread...

I doub't that it was stalling so bad before they dissconnected the battery...

When a Code 41 sets, the ECM uses the last known cylinder #1 TDC reference, or the last SFI reference pulse... With no idea what or where the fuel pulse is the car will not run worth a shit...

Oh well...lol... I'll leave that one alone

Well, it was stalling all the time before I fixed it. Now that it's fixed it doesnt stall anymore. Im willing to bet it was the interruptor.

BTW, No bonneville will get as good mileage as a diesel 4cyl VW. Sorry ;)

Edit: I asked my father if he disconnected the battery while it was stalling and he said he disconnected it many times to reset the ECM and it didnt do much.

What Don is trying to say is that when a cam sensor fails, the computer falls back to what it remembers as being right, and that works okay, but not great. When you pulled a battery terminal, it lost that memory. With no signal from the cam sensor, it ran like crap and stalled, most likely worse than it had before. That's all he's saying.

Highway mileage though would be similar between a gas VW 4-cyl and a Bonneville. No, a Bonneville won't get the same mileage as a VW diesel. Then again, a VW diesel isn't exactly a car that I'd want to drive/own...

But to each his own. Glad you got the Bonneville fixed.

My old VW Golf got about 30-34mpg. I havent been able to get better than 22-24mpg with my bonneville, but it could be the way I drive it. Either way, smaller engine smaller car is going to get better mileage, whether its a Gas or Diesel. Plus there is less to go wrong on a older VW. Either way im going to sell my bonneville now that I have everything fixed. Im going to start at $1000.00 obo. Does that seem fair?

"It stalls when I start to slow down, usually at 40mph or under. The RPM needle will drop quickly to 1,000, then to 400ish, then stall."

That sounds more like a gummed up IAC. Varying idle speed is another sign but where I would look first.

Have decided to let my son use the Bonne until he finishes school, the a/c died on his Grand Am and is not really worth putting a lot of money into it. Was having trouble considering selling anyway, have had since new and am attached to it.

I thought it was an IAC too, but as soon as I did the JB Weld trick on your site, the stalling stopped. It's been normal ever since.
