Default Strut Tower Brace?

Hey guys, I'm new at posting here but i've learned tons already from reading old threads. I love this site.

Anywho, I have a question. I used to have a '97 GTP, and I installed a buick STB, and I think it really solidified the car. I'd like to do the same for my '89 bonnie. Has anyone sucessfully installed a buick STB on an '87-'91 bonnie? OR is there something else that works? I'm all about doing this cheaply. I even considered just bolting on some aluminum angle, but that would look stupid.

Thanks in advance for any info.

Yup i have one on my 1989. The STB from just about any H-Body will work so just go to the local junkyard and pick one up. Mine was around 20 bucks I think. Once it warms up around here some I am going to clean it up a little better and stencil PONTIAC in red paint across the top.

If you drive like I do, don't paint it on the top

My STB has been flexing a bit lately. Dunno why It rubs the underside of my hood insulator panel sometimes. Hector and his 4-wheel drifting probably know what I'm talking about.

For those who also have this problem, Hector has a nifty little design that incorporates 2 engine bay braces into the STB.

Thanks for the info. I didn't know that any h-bodies had STB'*. Will there be any drilling involved, or will they just bolt up with existing holes? Also if any of you had the part number handy for one of these STB'*, or even what models/years they came on, i'd appreciate it.

Was it a good upgrade for you guys? Could you tell a difference?

Any 92-99 Bonneville at the wrecker will have it. Maybe even the LeSabre'*. I don't remember, even though my Mom drives one!

It'll just bolt up. The torque specs on the upper strut nuts are critcal. Use the right tool. DON'T lean on the car or move it while you have the nuts loose to put this on the car. You don't want to pay for an alignment.

Part number is 25553127 (about 10 bucks from gmpartsdirect.com NEW)
and you also need the 2 end pieces:

25640445 (right)

25640447 (left)

Also about 10 bucks each from the same source. A wrecker will have a few sneaking around the back corners of the lot!

in my weakened state of mind, I neglected to ask exactly what the proper torque would be for those upper strut nuts. Do you know off hand what it is or where I can find out?
