Do you think it will last? (If so .. how long?)
While looking around the TO area online, I found a black 91 SSE with grey cloth inside... it'* identical to mine. So it got me thinking... (and that'* always scary)
They want $1500 for it, but I phoned and they will take $1000.
The pros/cons are as follows....
Pros
Rebuilt Transmission
New Brakes / Tires
Cons
Rust on Body (not sure how much)
300,000km on orginal engine
CD doesn't work (not a big deal)
A/C doesn't work (not a worry either)
I'm thinking this car would be great for spare parts for mine. At $1000 it'* a steal!
Also, I could run it this winter for my winter beater, and hold off getting a newer car until next year.
So.... now here'* the gamble time.....
A)Would it last the 1800km trip back to NS
B)Do you think I could use it for a winter beater and get maybe 6 months out of it?

Dont weast money. Just get that black 97ssei or one like it... I know its salty in n/* but just undercoat the body and it will be fine.
Also if you fly out to the car.. theres the plane ticket.. or if you drove (and got someone else to drive one of the cars back) mite be over 600-700 in gas right there..

So youré getting rid of the 1991 you have now? :?
As for the car in TO- I'd take it- 1000 you can't go wrong- I'm sure that it would make it back to NS. Just get the oil changed, and change the air filter. If I had more time off, I'd check it out for you!

Deathrat.... you don't need to talk to me about salt... we have that year round here in NS. If it'* not the salt on the roads in the winter, it'* the salt air from the ocean
Mike, No I wouldn't be getting ride of my 91 SSE, I'd be using the 91 in TO as parts for my current car. My current 91 is mint (except for some tranny issues).

My dad regularly took it on fishing trips from Toronto to Owen Sound/Georgian Bay until we garaged it (it'* been a year). It should make the trip as long as there are no outstanding problems not mentioned by the current owner.

re: T.O. Bonneville
to give you some advice on yur potential purchase........personally i wouldnt drive it back to NS. and if you do, have someone drive back with you. you never know what problem(*) may occur when you have no idea as to the condition of the car regardless of how much or little the prev. owner tells you. maybe he/she is getting rid of their problem to you if bear that in mind. another solution is that maybe you can consider checking into "shipping" the car to NS. it may cost the same as driving it but at least it will arrive without breaking down. anyway, good luck with whatever you decide!

Hmmm..you make a good point. However I personally met the owner of this car. This was his 3rd Bonneville and he knew a thing or 2 about them. The condition of the car can easily be checked. In Ontario, in order to sell a car, it must pass emissions and be safety approved. If a car that passes safety, should be able to make it to NS. But I completely agree with taking someone with you. A travel buddy is always good to have

I think thats wayy to much to pay for a parts car, BUT if you can get some use out of it before you tear into it (winterbeater!) then that changes the whole ballgame. Have you priced out what the parts on it are worth to you (i.e. what you will actually need). Things like the tranny might make it worth it.
But then again, if you have to travel that far for a partscar/winter beater, I would say no. These are plentiful, no need to travel all over to find one for that purpose.
