LOTS of electrical problems.
Hey,
I recently aquired a 1989 Pontiac Bonneville SSE. It runs just fine, but I am expeirience MAJOR electric problems. Anyway, here is a rundown of whats going on. When I got the car it wouldn't start without a boost. I replaced the battery, and now it starts fine and the voltage is kept high. The engine runs great, brakes are great and it doesn't leak any fluids. What isn't working now: 1. Driver window won't go down. 2. Rear Driver window occaisionally works, but is currently stuck down. 3. Rear Passenger window won't go down. 4. Front passenger window goes up and down very slowly. 5. Most Seat adjustments don't work. The moon roof works fine, as well as the air, fan, heat, and other electrical equipment. I have checked the fuses and there is no problem there. Does anyone have any ideas why these things aren't functioning? Thanks! |
sounds like you need new power window motors...
|
my windows are starting to go really really slow now and i have a 90 bonne. i had the same problem with my right back window not going up, for me i have to have the car on and all the doors shut for it to go up. hope it helps
but i suggest getting new motors because yours (like mine) are old |
Are all window motors compatable with out 87-91 bonne's? or do we have to have one for an H-body, or just for bonneville's?, or specifically for our years? I am looking to find a good deal on replacing my 3 in/minute window motors, but I don't want to spend a whole lot of money as always ;-)

87-91 Bonneville power windows are notoriously slow, and they only get worse with age
My passenger-rear window is a bit stubborn, it takes some pushing and coaxing to get it to go up. And my power seats are just about in the same state - no way I'm able to recline the front seats. |
Could you interchange the motors. My dads 94 buick park ave 's are amazingly fast, could they be swapped with ours? Or is it year type specific only?
(dont mean to steal this thread) |
I priced some up at carquest the other day.
$90 Cdn for each of the front windows $110 Cdn for each of the rear windows |
I think i'll wait on ebay. So 92-99 bonne window motors are compatable with 87-91? If they are, I think meh is gonna pick some up while I have some money :-D. -justin |

Before replacing any window motors, I recommend that you do the followings, this might save you some $$$ 1) undo the inner door panel and degrease off the window track channel completly with a mythylic alcool then I will apply some "silicone" mist (like GIGOLO product) 2) wax your window to remove all trace of lime deposit to eliminate the friction. 3) Switch the switch from front to rear and compare if the windows are working If trouble just moved then you have a switch problem... |
good idea! plus the fastest window I have already has the panel removed! lol. any tricks for putting/ replacing the water shield thing? cheap would be best.
