Is 180 F thermostat exisiting for SSE 88
Is there a thermostat 180F that can replace the 195F original GM thermostat on SSE 88 3.8L serie I ?
If yes, where can I get one?
I found the following; $10.98 Power Stat 180 Degree Thermostat (3.8L Series II)
but I don't know if this will fit on a 3.8 L serie I engine configuration.
Is someone can provide guidance on this?

Not at home so do not have the part number but have bought several 180F thermostats for my "C" and "L" engines at Pep Boyz - Stant "Superstat" and believe it is stamped "44 mm" It MIGHT be #59848 but no promises from memory.

I've gone to napa, canadian tire, hell even walmart... and everysingle one of my cars from a toyota corolla to a Volvo to a 72 chevy pickup .. I had the choice between a 195 or a 180 (even 160 sometimes) ... I don't think you'll have any problems finding a 180 for your bonne

that my 88 SSE is made to ride with a 195 F and not with
a 180 F thermostat ...becoz the vacuum system is tailor made
in a VIN C configuration and changing the motor temperature
will lead to a very poor gas mileage.
Do you find your car hard on the gas mileage?

autozone only had the 180, they didn't even have the 195 for my bonne! so I know that it will be fine.. [i'm still holding out on installing mine]

I just installed my thermostat tonight, and so far, no problems. I'm driving up to Iowa (approx. 1000 miles) on Sunday. I'll keep track of the milage and let you know if it gets worse. Also, there is a thread somewhere here that talks about 180° thermostats. Generally, mechanics don't see a need for it, but a lot of the gearheads and people who are knowledgeable about bonne'* here all say that its good.
Anyways, when I went to Pep-Boys to get my thermostat, the guy only pulled up a 195° thermostat for my car. All I did was look at the part number, and get the 180° thermostat that was right next to it.

Other than running cooler is a Good Thing in Florida (and a 180 will provide plenty of heat even below 0F), I find that almost everything (belts, hoses, alternators, batteries, etc) lasts longer if you can keep the underhood temperature down. Of course I keep my cars long after the sell-by date.
