I have a 88 bonneville LE 211k miles im scarce to a rebuild on orginal engine and trans.

1st off WHO HAS PARTS SO I CAN UPGRADE????

2nd what motor do i have its the 3800 with auto trans

3rd. can i do a rear wheel drive manual trans. conversion.

i wanna add hp but i need the answer to #1 i wanna rebuild my motor upgrade it and go rear wheel drive. i don't give a **** if its not worth it people say my car "sucks balls" its a "granny car" its my first car i have grown used to the car i have put in new plugs, wires, $2000 sound system, i have new struts, new cv axles up front, new brake lines, new lower ball joints, new relays replaced about every1 :-) i wanna do exhaust: hi flow cat flowmaster single in dual out race series, and headers. also want a intake lose that black box. arg HELP!!!!!!!!!!!

The grammar of that post is mind-numbing, but I'll try to answer it as best I can.

2) If it actually IS the 3800 and not just the 3.8, then your engine is a LN3. I'm pretty sure. Also known as the "VIN-C" engine.

3) Can you do a rear wheel drive, manual transmission conversion? Sure. If you have unlimited funds, time, and fabrication skills. If you want serious performance in a way that doesn't involve completely redesigning your car, consider a Series II L67 swap. Do a search for "frankenbonnie". I'm not saying that your car isn't worth it. I'm just saying that RWD really isn't a good option for these cars.

You also mentioned doing an intake of some kind. I suggest you search for "ricepipe". That will get you started, if that's a direction you want to go.

Doing an manual transmission and RWD converstion would cost you a rediculous amount of money and time, however if you want to add power there are a few ways. Depending on how much power you want, you could consider the L67 swap. The easiest way to go about doing it would require the motor, trans, subframe, PCM, and wiring harness from a 97+ Bonneville or some other supercharged h-body. Other Series II L67's will work from GTP's and such, but you can't get the subframe from that car. This would be the best option if you want LOTS of power, because this motor has a HUGE aftermarket. You can get into the 10's if you really wanted to.

The problem is the LN3 (considering that is what you have, and not the LG3) is that there is a very very limited aftermarket. Everything you would do would have to be completely custom, which brings us to getting some sort of turbo setup. It would cost alot, and get you down to 15's, but I don't think spending that much on an engine with 211k & trans is cost effective.

I have done the intake mod, and it should be very easy for you because you don't have the ELC in your way. Just get a pipe designed for a civic or something of the sort, a nice K&N filter (RX-4750 is the filter of choice) and a rubber coupler. Thats all there is to it.

For the exhaust, any muffler designed for a f-body will work. Flowmaster has one and so does Magnaflow. Choice is up to you.

It all really comes down to how much power you want and how much you want to spend...

Where are you located? I might know someone that has a motor and trans you could build up.

Sounds like you need to sell it and buy a Trans Am or something if you want more balls and RWD. You'll be able to drive it instead of scratching your head wondering where to start plasma cutting.

I have a 90 LN3 motor and trans that is mostly complete in Enfield CT. Come and get it.

What would be involved in swapping out the LE dash cluster to SE?

I think it's been attempted, but never accomplished. I could be wrong though.
