Mine is all city driving, delivering pizzas, and the last tankful I got 16.1 mpg. This next one may be better because I am not testing 0-60 times at all, I am trying to see how good she can be. Let ya know later.

If you do not feel like dropping big cash, then at the very least do some of the simple periodic maintenance, and you might notice a difference in the mileage and pickup as well. Things like changing the air filter, a five dollar, five minute job, will help your mileage if it is due to be changed. If it needs an oil change that helps. If you want to spend more, you could get the fuel filter changed, I am sure that would help if yours is in need of it being changed.
I get around 18 in the city and 22 on the highway, however, have gotten 30 miles per gallon if I set the cruise at 55 or just over and just let it ride. This is on my 1990 for reference.

haha, well if you need a new ignition module, just upgrade to delco packs with the delco ignition! And it will cost you alot less than $110!!!
Either get the packs off of an L27 with the ignition plate or just PM BillBoost37. He'* our parts master! hah.
As for gas mileage, for what you are getting in the city seems to be about normal if you are heavy footed. On my last tank I got an average of about 17 mpg for the whole tank. But on the one before that I got an average of 23, so I know my car is working fine, its just a simple matter of human error.
If you are NOT being heavy footed with it, then you need a tune up. Badly.
Replace your Oxygen Sensor (Delco, yes, its worth the money), Plugs with NGK TR55s (from Advance, Checker or something similar.), Plug Wires (Autolites and Delco wires are good, but any with silicone jackets are good as well), and a new air filter (and for the love of god, don't get a FRAM unless you just can't afford anything more. I am only running a fram because someone stole my K&N). That should boost your mileage right up.
Good Luck!

My 91 LE has done 18-22 City and 28-31 on the road... The 31 mpg... I had my foot on it pretty good... I thought it was too good to be true.. and after a long drive I refilled and it was 31mpg again...

yeah, im not sure if im gunna go with the tune up or just run it as is. the funds are a little low right now. i just got blessed with a brand new, hole-in muffler exhaust system so there goes a couple bucks. but most of the city driving isnt heavy footed. but every now and then i need to put people in there places but other than that its normal. also, do you know where the cam sensor is located? i cant find the dumb thing to test it, since i was told by a mechanic that it was the ignition module, i think he was just tryin to get a few extra bucks outta me, so i wanna test it to make sure whats exactly wrong, the engine light is really gettin on my nerves

On that cam sensor .. the sensor might test good. However your engine was known to drop the magnet out of the cam gear. If so..it'* a reasonably easy fix w/o pulling the motor apart. I think J Wikoff posted the procedure.
And if you want to get an ignition module.. I assume you still have the one big block of coils and not the upgraded Type 2 system. If you want a good price on the full swap over to Type 2 of mounting plate, bolts, ignition control module and 3 coil packs guaranteed..
I price these at $48 shipped to anywhere in the US.

The three 3800s I have had all are about the same - 16-18 if never get over 45 in town, 30 at 55-60, 26 at left lane speeds on the Interstate. Series II is better.
Quick cam sensor magnet (interrupter) fix is at http://padgett.ws/cars/cammag.htm Five years later mine is still working well. .
$48 delivered for a complete good Delco ignition isounds like a deal. You need the plate to convert.
