Hopefully last tranny post (from me)

OK i have one more (maybe 2) questions about the tranny in my car. One i think is a problem one is just a general. First the problem. When i'm goin down the road, doesnt matter the speed or gear its in, if i drop the hammer on it or maybe 3/4 throttle, it goes to down-shift and th revs just take off. Way up, like 55-6000 rpm. I of course let off immediately so as not to blow up my 200k mile engine, and as soon as i do it down shifts and does. It takes VERY little lift off of the throttle to achieve this. I'm just wondering what this is. I've adjusted my TV cable many times and all it does is work on the low RPM shifts. Doesn't change this problem. Then that brings me to my next ?. How far out are your TV cables? By out i mean how much of the plastic geared part sticks out of the metal bracket. Every one i've seen barely has any coming up, and i have to have mine almost all the way out to get the shifts correct. Any feedback on these would be greatly appreciated.

I adjust mine by pushing the catch, sliding it all the way back in, then get in the car and floor it. Comes out about 3 clicks and not much is showing. It works for me.

Ya i know about the self-adjust thing. That doesn't work. It's almost like mine is somehow in backwards, even though that doesn't make sense. But that's what happens. Everyone elses is in the first few clicks, mine is on the last few clicks. Any ideas on the other thing?
