High Mount Brake Light
 

i noticed today that my high mount lights arent working when i fixed my security system problem (it was this wierd sensor with a broken cable so i disconnected it)

i tried swapping out the bulbs and replacing the light assembly with a known good one from my olds se's trunk (i saved it :D) so what im wondering is there some module that controls the high mount light or some fuse/relay i should be looking for?

someone with a FSM could you please look this up for me, my fsm is on its way so i dont have it yet

Here is some info: HOWEVER: This switch controlls all brake lights. So if any of your brake lights do work, then this isn't the problem....

it could be a mis-adjusted or a broken brake light switch. It's located behind the brake pedal. You'll probably have to remove the panel above your pedals that covers it up but its pretty easy, just a few hex screws.
Anyways with that out of the way, look at the bar that connects the brake pedal up to the car (to put it simply). About 6-8inches above the pedal part (where your foot would be) is a switch that when the pedal is pressed down the switch is on:
------> out (BRAKE LIGHTS ON, pedal is depressed, allowing switch to come out))

-->IN (brake lights off, pedal at rest position)


Basically when the switch is in out position, it completes the circuit, when its in(pedal at rest) it opens the circuit.

You can remove the switch and test it on your own with a multimeter for continuity and break in circuit at appropriate positions.



IF some of our brake lights work then like i mentioned at first, this switch isn't the problem, there must be some other wiring issue. If the bulbs aren't working on there it's safe to say its not seeing power at the socket, but a quick check with multimeter would put that in stone.

yea my other lights work its just the high mount thats out, i hate messing with factory wiring....grrrrrrr..... :x
