Got a couple issues that popped up on the SSE just recently.

The box that controls the DRL'* and auto-on headlights has fried itself. Got *really* hot too. Three replacements were sourced, as is the general rule of thumb for junkyard electrics. All three were just as fried. Is it really that common of a problem? I mean, I can do without auto-on headlights, but having DRL'* back would be nice for visibility'* sake.

Second, hesitation. After coming off the highway, half tank of fuel, many times when turning (right). The car feels as if it'* just about to die when giving it gas after coming to a stop. The circumstances of the problem tells me it'* fuel, but I'm not quite sure. Recently replaced coil/ICM, new plug wires, good plugs. Car isn't down on power at all and will function completely fine otherwise.

And it looks like the front left caliper just seized. yay





edit: I'm tempted to guess maybe baffles in the gas tank, but why would it do it only from a stop and not in any other condition? It'* also started doing it in a straight line, so I'm worried about things like the fuel pump. If that'* the case, bye bye Bonneville :o

Of course it isn't instant response land, but many of you folks have have been on in the past couple days and replying in other topics as this one was slowly finding its way to the bottom of the page with no replies

Hm, I was wondering on the fuel pressure, might it cause an issue directly after leaving the highway? What about the MAF? Potential heatsoak problems anywhere? The problem can basically be replicated after stopping at any off-ramp.

DRL'* became law in Canada around the late 80'* or early 90'*, so yeah, I have 'em. The unit that takes care of the DRL'* and auto-on headlights isn't even installed at the moment, so there'* only turning the headlights on manually. Not the biggest issue in the world (just another one of the many electrics failing), it'* just I've never seen it mentioned, even though all junkyard replacements have been just as burnt out. Now that I think about it, American members might not even have daytime running lights. You didn't get them until '96?!

I'd start w/fuel pressure....but feel free to start looking at any of those...they are good areas.

doesn't sound much like fuel pressure.. but it could be.. since it is vacuum controlled and you never know. Heatsoak? I doubt it, your car cools it'* best when on the highway.

That'* what I'm figuring about the heatsoak.


A bloke that my dad talked to said that he had the same symptoms shortly before his fuel pump gave up the ghost... and I'm REALLY hoping that it isn't the fuel pump.

Well, test up the Fuel Pressure, mate. Maybe the pressure is fine, but since the pump is weak it can't quite suck up enough fuel when it'* going around a corner [doesn't make sense to me.. but ya never know with these cars]. If the pump still works it wouldn't be too hard to do. You can just run the car out of gas, and then the tank will be super light and then drop it, replace pump, reinstall. Easier said then done, I know.

Could also maybe be a broken baffle too like on the 92s...

As for the driving lights, mine went about 4 years ago and I was lucky enough to find one at a wreckers. It'* been working since, sure makes it handy
