Default tranny swap!

um ya I have a 89 sse and the tranny was slipping really bad to the point where it wouldn't accelerate! we droppped the tranny and put in one from and older regal i think it was and 87or 88 not to sure it had the 3.8 in it!. but it was all great untill we went to plug it in there was an extra wire??? there was 4 wires now isnted of the three so in a haste we cut the one wire that was extra!lol the tranny worked good but , intermitently it seem to slip! know specific gear or rpm just totally out of the blue!, this tranny was tested before we took it out ... know I'm looking to slove my slipping problem!?..if anyone has any diagrams for tranny wiring? or knows what i'm talking about?...or what aother tranny'* will work in this car without slipping....please don't post back crazy number like th-440- or something like that cuz it'* might aswell be french!. i'm just looking for a vehicle description so i can buy a junker and rip the tranny out of it!lol or maybe even fix this one?....thanks!

I'm assuming that my 92+ won't werk correct!?

Anything electronic will not work. You need a 4t60 (not a 4t60e), also known as a 440t4. Although apparantly you already know this because you said not to tell you that. That is what the salvage yards are gonna ask you, and if you know its a 4t60 or a 440t4 they should be able to tell you. Go to the salvage yard and tell them you have a '89 Bonneville and it needs a trans and they should have a list of all the cars with a trans that should swap to yours. Any 89 and 90 bonneville should work for the swap (maybe ealier and later, I'm not too sure). Go to www.car-part.com and you should be able to search for a tranny that will work there.

okay this is what i have right now!...my original tranny was a 89 sse 5 wire tranny the one i Have in right now only has 4 wires when i put the tranny in i did not notice this difference it was out of a 87 le sabre.. so all the wires were color matched and the one extra was left un plugged what wire it is or does is what i'm unsure of? wondering if this wire in same way may be causing my tranny to slip occasionally? is there a way I can find out?...or a way i can change the wiring from my original to match the 87 tranny thanks

ok theres a range of problems here, 1 1987 used a different engine than your 89, you have the LN3 and 87 used the LG3 which may cause problems

also i believe that 87 used a different trans than the newer ones

i was gonna say 87 didnt use the 3.33 gearing that sse'* got but i realized you had an 89 which still didnt get the 3.33 lol

I figured if it fit and moved it would work but apparently not I got a list of trans that match up to the vehicle and the 88 le sabre was one of them but not the 87..lol. So I think unfortunately i'm screwed!. hopefully I can find the correct tranny! is there an upgraded tranny i can use that might perform/last a bit longer then the stock one!?

well a gx3 trans out of a 90-91 sse would perform better, but make ur gas mileage go down, but if you do get it get an external trans cooler, they burn fluid from heat badly. some people say the gx3 is crap but im at 179k on mine and its just a little clunky now, no slippage. tho by the time it hits 200k it will probably slip from the way i drive when i get pissed
