Price in $US$ for OEM parts (GMPD)

52479884 is $38.60

to answer your question, it is sort of a pain on these cars but doable if you have a few hours to get everything back together under the dash correctly, will cost you several hundred at a stealership but if you can do it yourself I would just replace it.

Make sure you keep all the hardware sorted . There are several 7mm hex head trim screws of different lengths and different thread pitch.
It might be a good idea to have a towel handy under the dash when the cover comes off.
The most difficult task for me was releasing the original equipment spring type hose clamps. I used a medium length needle nosed Vise Grip.
When you put it back together, you'll want to put screw type hose clamps on it. It would be a good idea to replace the hoses to the core while you've got them off.

A cable tool like the one shown on the right below makes quick work for clamps in tight spots.

This one is a Mayhew - costs about $65 from the Mac tool man.

Yer serious??? I bought the core at NAPA in Fredericton.

I can get parts at a discount since I work at a garage. However, it was a saturday, and NAPA were the only ones open. I had no choice really... I thought that is what the normal price for everyone realy.

I didn't mean any disrespect toward Canada, it just sounds like that price is 3 times too high. Sometimes you have to have the part and have to pay what it costs. That's why I have more than one car and a bicycle. I hate the thought of getting jabbed for a "gotta have it now" part because my only ride to work is down. When gas got too high, screw 'em I rode my bike.
