Has anyone changed their brake system?

I looking into changing my system from the current set up to a vacuum system has anyone done this to their car, if so how did it turn out and how much did you invest?

I'm not sure I follow you. What is your current setup? I thought they were all vacuum based??

Mr Norm 01-31-2010 04:15 PM

The 1990 SSE models came with a hydraulic set up which didn't use a brake booster because it was a one piece unit.

Power steering pump assist?

Mr Norm 01-31-2010 05:56 PM

Is that part of the vacuum system?

Mike 01-31-2010 06:09 PM

No, Powersteering assist braking is kinda like vacuum assisted, but instead, the hydraulic "boost" is provided by the power steering pump. eh, apparently not used in yours.

If you just have a normal master cylinder and some brake lines coming out, more than likely you could convert over.

You would need a matched set. ie, master cylinder, and booster to go with it. Modify some brake lines, and connect a vacuum line from the intake somewhere to the booster.
If you don't mind used, you could get away with spending a few dollars at the junkyard. Maybe $50-$75??
Hope this answers your question.

Thanks for the info Mike.

Mike 01-31-2010 07:39 PM

If you could, post some pictures of what you currently have. This would help us better. Especially if you decide to convert over.

O.K. Mike I'll have them up this week.
