Engine Flush (Oil)
Ok now my idea of just draining fluid through the transmission to flush it was shot down like a slow duck. So now i am asking, is it a good idea, or does it have any more maintinance pluses to change your oil twice every 3 or 4 changes? including the filter? Could it possibly clean the engine a little more? Are there any specific things you can add with the oil that are supposed to clean the engine after you drive like for 10 mins and then change it again or something?
also, i have never really gotten a straight answer on this, but what is the best oil filter? if K&N is the best then no need to answer, but if not it is prolly delco or something...

You have a lot of questions today don't you... How about in the future we try to keep most of the question combined in one thread.. It would make it a lot easier to answer these questions as they are all maintainance questions...
Onto the oil..
Is your engine dirty? was it well cared for... Was the oil as balck as tar? I don't really reccomend an engine flush... 3800'* don't gennerally beat up the oil they are very good about that... If you would like you could get the cheapest oil from Wally world and a supertech filter and drive a 100 miles and then change it again and drive 1000 miles, and then change the oil again using an AC Delco PF47 filter, and 5 qts of Mobil, Havoline, Valvoline... And you should be good to go... When I got my 91 the oil was a wee bit dark... The dealership changed it before they handed me the keys... I changed it a couple hundred miles later... and then did it again 1000 miles later... I still have a very clean engine... 3800 are really good about not having sludge issues...
Open the oil cap and look in... Does it look clean in there? Like this?
If it looks like that under the oil cap, then just do a change and another in about 1000 miles and you'll be good to go for a long time...

When i got the car it had been sitting for 3 years. Maybe driven a couple of blocks at the most. It was owned consecutively but 2 old ladies. I used the 3 year old oil for 2,200 miles and then changed it. Yeah, i know that was a bad idea. But when i got the car it sat for another few months because it had a cooling issue....but back on oil...
so i will do that drive thing. you said Mobil, havoline, valvoline and such, any specific kind of high mileage or something...and you said delco filter...do i get that any specific place, i don't think they have it at WM/WW...
thanks for your advice...i don't feel like im thinking right today, i need ot be retaught...lol

The Delco filter will be sold at Advance or its parent store Parts America, even autozone carries them... PF47...
Any of those oils will work... I am a fan of Havoline and or Mobil... I love them both... Just buy a whole case and you'll have enough for a couple of oil changes..

Sea Foam is really good for "flushing". Add half a can in your oil like a hundred miles before a change. Really good detergent, and good for doing a top-end cleaning through a vacuum line.
Don't know if you guys are familiar with it, but the Ford Explorer board I'm on a lot really likes it and deemed it a non-detrimental oil additive.
