Engine goes tick tick tick
I guess I have alot of questions today.
I would like to know if its normal for my Bonneville SE 1990'* engine to have a very noticeable ticking. It'* more pronounced when the car is first started but once its warmed up I can still hear it. Could it be the lifters or rockers causing it? If so, does it need to be adjusted or replaced?

Have you removed your plastic engine cover ? I recently did on my Regal and I now hear it ticking. I think there is noise from the injectors. Maybe some valve train noise. Shouldnt be much with the hydrolic lifters.

When my '91 ticked that what I was hoping for was it to be the rockers. Ended up being the main bearings. But my oil pressure dropped gradually over a short period of time. Definently take it to the shop and get it checked out.

You can save yourself diagnostic costs and possibly being ripped off by going out and buying a stethascope from your local autoparts store. Its much like what a doctor uses but it has a hard tube on the end so you can listen to exact places. Use it to listen around your engine and see if you can locate the noise. Remember harmonics in engines can be easily transfered from one side to the other so make sure you listen everywhere, even if you think you found it check other places and see if its louder. Also listen to each injector, they do tend to click when they fire. If you find noise when pressed to your valve cover slide under your car and press it to each of the oil pan bolts. If its louder under it you might have bearing problems.
